Loss weight
There weren’t always dragons in the valley. They were far from it, but they still were there, in various shapes and forms. The air was clear, crisp, and dry. It had been cold since we left, and I felt my face sweat as I looked around me, trying to adjust to the dark and wet landscape that surrounded us. We had walked for hours, up a steep hill, over a river, down a ravine, through dense forests, and finally came back at our destination, on top of an ancient peak, at what had once been a town. Before I knew it, we were lost again, this time not in the bushlands or mountains, not in the mist, nor the silence, or the night. This time, we were lost within, out of sight, out of reach, out of mind. Our eyes were drawn to a clearing just ahead, the sun was setting behind the trees, casting shadows across the ground below, casting a shadow over us. We stumbled upon a small cave, its walls dark as if it were covered in something deep and heavy. Its floor was littered with rocks and boulders, and it was surrounded by a thick canopy of vines growing out of the side, covering its floor like a net. We tried to follow the lead but fell into a hole, which closed itself off quickly, leaving us trapped. A nearby stream seemed more comfortable than the one we found ourselves in, so we went for it. As we stood beside it, watching the water flow, a light appeared out of nowhere, illuminating the entire area, and making the forest look like gold. It was almost too bright to see anything else, but it caught our eye, so we followed the light until we came to another clearing, this one different from the first. Here it was, but unlike before. Unlike the other caves, this one was made of stone. It was about five feet high, with a wide mouth opening onto a deeper chamber. What could be inside? Where did all that water come from? Was this part of the same giant sinkhole that led to the sea? No, it couldn't be — it had to be some sort of pipe system. But, how would we get out of here? Were there any boats nearby? Maybe they'd heard about the sunken ship that sank two weeks ago. They'd probably have some useful information. Who knew we'd end up stranded out in the middle of nowhere?
Suddenly, a noise echoed through the woods, and then another. After that, there was nothing but the sound of our breathing in the darkness. We had no idea what time it was, and only the stars above us lit up the sky as we lay there looking up at them, searching for answers. When we saw a shadowy figure moving towards us, the hairs on the back of our necks began to stand up, and we tried to run back into the tunnel, but the figure kept coming. It was bigger, taller, and faster than we thought it would be able to be. All it wanted to do was eat. And eat we did, eating everything in sight. With teeth as sharp as daggers eating flesh, and claws as long as swords, the creature ate slowly, devouring each bit of flesh, one bite at a time. By the time we realized our mistake, we were almost done, and it got even better. For once, there was no going back.
The next thing I remember is my hunger hitting me hard, the shrill sound of my stomach filling with the smell of blood and the feeling of being pulled away from my body, and being tossed backwards and forwards without mercy, and then, finally, being dragged out into the open air, and seeing the world around me fade away in a blur, and the last thing I remember is waking up in a pool of darkness, unable to move.
